South Howard’s new chapter, Tampa’s Halloween plans, and a reason to make a night of it.

Morning, Tampa. Mingo here, with a brunch vote to settle and a few Halloween plans worth making.

Meeting House gives an old South Howard favorite a new chapter. Downtown has candy buckets to fill, and Tampa Theatre has an evening for several levels of bravery. You don’t have to do everything to enjoy living here.

Trivia Questionâť“

What did a ticket cost when Tampa Theatre first opened in 1926?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

National Weather Service Tampa Bay/Ruskin: Friday, October 23, 2026. Map issued 7:11 a.m. EDT. Regional high temperatures and rain chances.

Worth knowing before you put on real shoes: Friday’s NWS map puts Tampa near 81°F with a 0% rain chance. The point forecast calls for sunny weekend days around 82–83°F; Sunday may be breezy. Bring water for daytime plans and check the latest Tampa forecast before heading out.

Daily Eats has a successor on South Howard Avenue. Meeting House is open at 901 S. Howard Avenue, giving Tampa neighbors a new menu to consider at a familiar address. Mingo has checked the practical details so you can choose a visit that suits your appetite.

The restaurant describes its concept as a modern American diner. Its name recalls Old Meeting House, which the business identifies as an earlier gathering place at this corner. The current ingredient pitch includes grass-fed beef, sourdough and wild-caught seafood.

For lunch, the posted single smashed beef burger costs $13, smashed chicken is $14 and the wild fish bun is $17. Burgers include a side on the dine-in menu; confirm inclusions when ordering online.

Weekend brunch runs Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. French toast is $12, oatmeal smash pancakes are $11, and savory lunch plates give the breakfast-resistant member of your group another option.

A burger with lemonade or French toast with a latte each totals $18 before tax and tip. Those are calculations from individual menu prices, with extras charged separately.

Meeting House closes Mondays. No table-booking link is visible on the official site, so call 813-868-3335 about reservations, waits or group seating. Check parking arrangements, too. Send the menu around before settling on lunch or brunch; the French-toast faction deserves a vote.

Downtown Tampa’s Halloween calendar gives families several ways to celebrate during October 24–31, 2026. Choose around your budget and your children’s energy, then check the organizer’s booking rules before leaving.

The free Riverwalk Trick-or-Treat takes place Saturday, October 24. The organizer lists 4–9 p.m. at Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park, with treat stations, a costume contest and a 7:15 p.m. Ghostbusters screening. Another calendar gives an earlier finish, so check the organizer’s latest update.

Guppyween at The Florida Aquarium runs October 24–31, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Trick-or-treating is scheduled for October 24, 25 and 31. Children in costume receive free admission with a paid parent or guardian under an offer redeemed at the ticket window.

A separate sensory-friendly Aquarium session on October 25 runs 8–9 a.m. It costs $10 per guest, is free for members, and serves families and children with sensory differences or accessibility challenges.

The History Center’s A Night at the Museum runs October 24, 2–6:30 p.m., with $20 admission and timed entry. Some slots are sold out.

Downtown parking will need thought. Consult current parking information, allow for food and transport costs, and pick one main outing before adding extras. Bring a treat bag and check the weather before heading out.

Tampa Theatre’s A Nightmare on Franklin Street continues through Halloween, with comedy, family screenings and adult horror. The useful first decision is everyone’s appetite for scares. All times below are local Eastern Daylight Time.

Young Frankenstein screens Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 4:30 p.m., with doors opening at 4 p.m. The PG comedy runs 1 hour 46 minutes and offers a lighter way into the season.

On Saturday, October 31, Hocus Pocus starts at 3 p.m.; doors open at 2:30 p.m. The special Mummy & Me screening advertises free admission for children 12 and younger. Confirm the booking process for those tickets.

The same evening, the original Halloween begins at 6 p.m., with doors at 5:30 p.m. Its R-rated slasher content makes it the adult-horror choice among these picks.

Each of these screenings lists $13 general admission and $10 member admission, plus a $2 online service fee. They use open seating in the Historic Duncan Auditorium at 711 N. Franklin Street.

Book the exact screening before adding dinner. Ghost tours are separate, involve stairs and extended standing, and have limited availability. Parents should review film content even for the PG choices. Give your group enough time to arrive and find seats together.
