Halloween in downtown Tampa: Riverwalk, Guppyween and museum fun
Choose a free waterfront evening, an aquarium day or a timed museum visit for October 24–31, 2026

Downtown Tampa has several ways to fill a Halloween bucket this week. Choose around your family’s pace and budget: a waterfront wander, an Aquarium day or a museum visit with a booked entry time.

Mingo here. A child in a cape can have a very good afternoon with one well-chosen outing. These 3 options cover different budgets and schedules, all within Tampa. Times below are local Eastern Daylight Time.

Riverwalk Trick-or-Treat: the free outdoor option

The Riverwalk organizer lists Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 4–9 p.m. at Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park, 601 Water Street. Admission is free, with more than 50 treat stations advertised along the waterfront.

The schedule includes a Thriller flash mob at 4:30 p.m., a costume contest at 5 p.m. and an outdoor screening of Ghostbusters at 7:15 p.m. Bring a treat bag and something comfortable to sit on if the film is your finale. Check the movie’s content for your own children.

A separate city calendar lists an 8:30 p.m. finish. We’re following the organizer’s 9 p.m. listing; check its page before leaving and arrive early enough to enjoy the activities you want.

Guppyween: costumes meet aquarium creatures

At The Florida Aquarium, 701 Channelside Drive, Guppyween runs October 24–31, 2026, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Its advertised activities include costumed divers and underwater pumpkin carving. Trick-or-treating is specifically listed for October 24, 25 and 31.

Children in costume receive free admission with a paid parent or guardian under the advertised offer. Redeem it at the Aquarium ticket window. Adult admission still applies; confirm your party’s eligibility and the current price before buying tickets online.

The Aquarium also offers a separate sensory-friendly session on Sunday, October 25, from 8–9 a.m., with adapted lights and sounds. Admission is reserved for families and children with sensory differences or accessibility challenges. Tickets are $10 per guest and free for members; use the event page’s booking link.

A Night at the Museum: book your entry time

The Tampa Bay History Center’s Halloween celebration takes place at 801 Water Street on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 2–6:30 p.m. Candy stations, crafts and costumed characters bring a seasonal twist to the museum.

The listed price is $20, with a 15% member discount. Timed entry begins at 2 p.m.; the final entry is 5 p.m. Some slots are already marked sold out. Choose an available entry time before setting the rest of your afternoon.

A museum booking can give the day a useful anchor. Leave enough breathing room afterward for a snack, a bathroom stop and the inevitable costume adjustment.

Make the journey part of the plan

The Riverwalk organizer warns that multiple downtown events will affect parking on October 24. Its page lists special-event garage rates and suggests parking in Ybor City and using the streetcar. Check the current City of Tampa parking information and your return journey before committing.

Bring water and wear comfortable shoes. A small bag helps with discarded costume pieces. A breezy waterfront evening can make a cape surprisingly ambitious. Review the National Weather Service forecast and organizer updates on the day.

Pick your main event first. If everyone still has energy, a second stop is a bonus. A candy bucket and a tired child are quite enough to carry home.

For a simple Saturday, reserve the museum first and decide whether to continue to the nearby waterfront afterward. An Aquarium visit has its own pace; check activity times when you arrive and give everyone room to linger at the exhibits.

Keep admission, parking and food as separate lines in your budget. Free entry to an outdoor event can still come with a garage bill. Save the organizer pages on your phone so a change in plans doesn’t send the whole group searching again.
